I had had my own babies and was looking for inspiration in the myriad of songs available on YouTube. Some had American translations not English, some were unrecognisable, some were plain wrong and many were too fast. I decided to make my own. Over the last few years I have developed a collection of songs with accompanying presentations that we use in Spanish Songs. The children get used to the images, sounds and signs/actions we use and develop an understanding of the language, Many immediately recognise it is a different language and sit up/pay attention to the different sounds helping them understand what makes Spanish, Spanish and what makes English so English as well.
This class is now back at Cartlands Independent Tearoom from June 9th. It was streamed online during lockdowns #1 and #2 so families could enjoy this session at home
Singing songs in Spanish; fun for babies up to preschooler age
We sing nursery rhymes and action songs together and each song has accompanying pictures and lyrics. The lyrics help the mums to join in so even if you don't speak Spanish when you start you will be able to sing in Spanish by the time you stop! Some children mainly listen whereas some begin to associate the pictures and words and are very active participants. Some sing along, and some flick through their books or play their instruments; they all absorb language in their own way so don't worry if your child does his or her own thing!
Meeting termtime and weekly on Wednesdays at Cartlands tearoom (Covid-allowing) we sing songs and play instruments, all the while encouraging acquisition of Spanish sounds, vocabulary and even some phrases. Lots of fun for newborns up to pre-schoolers and their parents and grandparents!
If Covid disturbs plans this class will go back to being streamed on zoom for those who wish to participate.
