A class for young learners, pre-schoolers and home ed students, it is held at Cartlands Tea Room in Kings Heath Park on Wednesdays at 10.30am.
BACKGROUND
I had had my own babies and was looking for inspiration in the myriad of songs available on YouTube. Some had American translations not English, some were translations into Spanish were strange or plain wrong and many were too fast for learners to sing along with. I decided to make my own. Over the last few years I have developed a collection of songs with accompanying presentations that we use in Spanish Songs. The children get used to the images, sounds and signs/actions we use and develop an understanding of the language, Many immediately recognise it is a different language and sit up/pay attention to the different sounds helping them understand what makes Spanish, Spanish and what makes English so English as well.
This class is held at Cartlands Independent Tearoom. It was streamed online during lockdowns #1 and #2 so families could enjoy this session at home
Singing songs in Spanish; fun for babies up to preschooler age. Which means it has run continuously since 2016!
Often the adult group asks for a song and these have helped learners of all ages pick up Spanish!
We sing nursery rhymes and action songs together and each song has accompanying pictures and lyrics. The lyrics help the adults and older children to join in so even if you don't speak Spanish when you start you will be able to sing in Spanish by the time you stop! Some children mainly listen whereas some begin to associate the pictures and words and are very active participants. Some sing along, and some copy my actions. I put out colouring and we talk about phonics. We play games with props like the parachute to encourage teamworking and collaboration. Older children are welcome to sample books or play the instruments; they all absorb language in their own way so don't worry if your child does his or her own thing!
Meeting termtime, weekly on Wednesdays at Cartlands tearoom we sing songs and play instruments, all the while encouraging acquisition of Spanish sounds, vocabulary and even some phrases. Lots of fun for newborns up to pre-schoolers and their parents and grandparents!
All instruments are cleaned between classes. Please feel free to relax in class with your kiddos. Just come along and have fun :)
Please enter around the side gate and via the rear door, through the outdoor seating area at the back. Please leave buggies outside where possible. ...And enjoy!
